Event description

Description

Kutumba is passionate about providing opportunities for communities to connect and create.

Join Joh, owner of Kutumba, to learn a simple basketry technique showcasing recycled silk yarn from Nepal. The soft, discarded threads of silk sari manufacture are woven into a yarn, reducing waste and creating a unique fibre for various craft work.

Kutumba supports many handicraft social enterprises in Nepal, with Joh sourcing the yarn and many other handmade treasures on her regular visits and small group tours to the home of her heart.

Using a fast and easy wrapping technique combining the silk yarn with raffia grass, the result is a unique weaving of stunning contrast and colour.

This 3 hour workshop includes:

* a delicious vegan morning tea with Kutumba's own Masala Chiyaa
* all materials and equipment
* take home goodie bag including needle, raffia + yarn

Discover the joy of creating something with your own hands! Basket weaving is an ancient craft that nurtures mindfulness. This technique can be adapted to incorporate other recycled, unused or discarded fibres.
