On Friday 1 April 2016, my sister Rose lost her beautiful son, Mitchell.
After a long battle with depression, Mitchell ended his life in the early hours of that Friday morning.
In the weeks and months following his death, we learned that far too many families are affected by suicide.
On his father’s side, Mitch is one of six family members to die by suicide. On his mother’s side, he was one of three.
Mitchell left behind a family who loved him immensely, including two beautiful children. It is because of them that we have decided to throw our efforts into support for family members affected by suicide, as well as programs to prevent suicide.
Our family is not alone in our loss. Across Australia, suicide remains the leading cause of death in those aged 15-44. It is our hope that, with your support, we can prevent other families from experiencing this loss.
Mitchell loved to laugh and it is in this spirit that we have chosen to host a comedy event in his honour.
We hope you can join us for Shut the Gate Comedy Event. Featuring some of Brisbane’s best stand-up comics, all funds raised from this laughter-filled day will support our charity partners: Lifeline Crisis Support, Survivors of Suicide Bereavement Support Association, and Mitchell’s children – Chase and Kyana Heilig.
Your $35 will include show entry; a platter of food for your table and entry into the draw for your chance to win lucky door prizes including one nights accommodation to a Mantra Resort Property to the value of $200 + more...
Seats are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. We look forward to seeing you all there.
