Show and TEL: Virtual Reality in Health Education
Event Information
About this event
This event includes a presentation from Associate Professor Jane Frost (University of Canberra), a hands-on VR demonstration, and a panel discussion on the uses and challenges of using VR for health education.
This event is ideal for academics and clinicians interested in using virtual, augmented, and mixed reality for teaching and learning in the health sciences.
Numbers for face to face are limited – please register early to avoid missing out the hands-on experience. Both the presentation and the panel will be live-streamed for online participants.
1pm – 1.30pm – Presentation
Mode: On-campus with live stream available.
Hear from innovative educator Associate Professor Jane Frost from University of Canberra, who will share how she uses virtual and augmented reality in nursing education. Jane's work is focused on improving patient-centred care through building empathy and clinical reasoning skills in nursing students using VR simulations.
1.30pm – 2.30pm – Hands-on VR experience
Mode: On-campus
Try different virtual and augmented reality simulations currently used in health education at both ANU and UC in this hands-on session. Participants can experiment with mobile devices and virtual reality headsets and discuss with the academics and professional staff using these simulations for teaching. Light refreshments will be provided (with vegan and gluten free options).
2.30pm - 3:30pm – Fishbowl Panel – VR in Health Education: Pedagogy and Practicalities
Mode: On-campus with live stream available.
Join a range of academics, learning designers, and technologists to discuss teaching with virtual reality in health education. This rotating fishbowl-style panel will invite speakers from across ANU to share their perspectives on the design and use of VR in education, including learning design and pedagogy, affordances, challenges, and the logistical realities of using VR with students. Participants will have a chance to ask questions or join the panel themselves.
