Event description

Description

I wanted to spotlight "Imo Shochu". A distilled drink made with sweet potato. All the Imo Shochu we taste are "Satsuma Shochu", a protected labeling term meaning it is made in Kagoshima area using only local potatoes. Shochu is the traditional drink by default in the broader Kyushu Island, home of the Tonkotsu Ramen. I will discuss basic production methods, and different factors involved in the varying labels.

We will taste the following 7 labels.

<7 labels>
Mori Izo - Aka the "Phantom". Sells out as soon as it is released and sells on internet auctions for 10x.
Mitake - A small batch shochu made in Yakushima Island,
Kojika - Made with white koji, from Kanoya.
Kojika Hon Nigori - Kojika lightly filtered.
Kuro Kirishima - Made with black koji.
Aka Kirishima - Made with purple potato
Kichisuke Shiro - All potato, meaning even the koji is made with potato.

An event like this can not be missed if you have any interest in Shochu. Also, if you enjoy whiskey, this might open a new door for you.

The Shochu we serve is 25% ABV. We will serve approx 30ml x 6 shots + Mitake due to availability will be a half shot. Sessions should run about an hour. Ticket entitles holder to the shochu tasting experience, there will be some finger food but food of substance is not included, you are welcome to order food and extra drinks before or after the tasting session. Obviously patrons must be over 18 please.
