Every community has a role to play in preventing family violence and gender equality increases women’s safety and wellbeing by encouraging a society based on respect.

Global evidence shows that gender inequality is a key driver of family violence and other violence against women.

We have partnered with the Department of Health and Human Services, Crowdspot and XYX Lab to improve gender equality, with Girl Geek Academy leading a group of hand selected women to shape a technical, design and marketing brief during a hack day we're calling #SheMakesChange.

#SheMakesChange will take place on December 9 during Victoria Against Violence (VAV) — 16 Days of Activism campaign commences on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on the 25 November 2017 and concludes on International Human Rights Day, on 10 December 2017.

What is #SheMakesChange?

#SheMakesChange is a one day power session of great minds tackling a big problem in the world. We partner with government agencies, not-for-profits and those who wish to solve social problems that impact women. We gather a diverse range of people - from developers and UX designers to artists, marketers and subject matter experts - and then facilitate a day of deep immersion and problem solving.

Our partners walk away with powerful knowledge and concept prototypes, having worked with a focus group of women who each bring a unique perspective and expertise to the table.

Participants are given the valuable experience of networking and problem solving with a diverse group and leave knowing that they have directly contributed to positive outcomes for women.

I can't code, can I still attend?

Yes! In fact, we are looking for a well-rounded collective with different skill sets and experiences. (Think Hipster (designer), Hacker (programmer) and Hustler (marketing and business - growth hacker).
