Event Details

Share the Vision: Teachers and Librarians Symposium 2019 brings together teacher librarians and educational leaders to learn, collaborate and connect. Through keynote addresses, short, practical presentations, and a panel discussion, participants will be able to refine their teaching pedagogies, discuss best practice in libraries, develop soft skills to support the ongoing inclusion of libraries and teacher librarians in schools, and explore ideas for fostering a love of literature in young readers.

Journalist and Torres Strait Islander woman Rhianna Patrick will present a keynote on the rise of Fake News and Citizen Journalism, also looking at ways to make libraries more inclusive.

Dianne McKenzie runs School Librarian Connection and is a passionate educator. She will present an overview of how advocacy and evidence based practice are integrally interconnected. She will also share insights from an international survey on differences in school libraries between different types of schools - Government, private, international, IB and non IB.

Other Presenters include Peter Carnavas, popular children’s author and illustrator presently studying to become a Teacher-Librarian, who will speak about the value of school libraries from his unique perspective. Melanie Robinson, Teacher-Librarian at All Hallows School, will discuss the "Cre8 Lab" maker space established in the school library. Senior English teacher and former Director of the annual Somerset Celebration of LiteratureJean Yates will explore strategies for developing a passion for reading in young adult learners.

The Literature Panel includes Teacher-Librarian and blogger Trish Buckley, St Peters Lutheran College Teacher-Librarian Christina Wheeler, Weekend Australian columnist Joy Lawn and teacher and children’s author and illustrator Peter Carnavas.
