Shaping the Future of Design Education - Presented by Tractor as part of VIVID Ideas 2013
In a world where the traditional roles of the designer are becoming increasingly diverse, it’s essential to make sure we’re providing the creative industries with graduates who are equipped to contribute to an evolving paradigm.
This panel session will not only be an ideal opportunity to hear from some of Australia’s leaders in the design industry about their ideas for the future of design education, it will also be a unique opportunity to lay some foundations for the future of design education in Australia.
Join us and you'll hear from some of the most influential design figures in Australia and you'll also have the opportunity to contribute your questions to the panel.

Chris is an internationaly recognized designer with over ten years experience, Chris has worked at some of Australia's leading brand and design agencies. His work has won numerous local and international awards, been used as the basis for educational material in Europe and in the United States and appeared in feature articles for CreativeReview and Grafik Magazine.
In 2009 he was named one of Indesign Magazine’s Top Ten Faces and Forces of Design and in 2011 his work was selected to be part of Graphic Design: Now in Production (GD:NIP) – a joint exhibition with Cooper-Hewitt and the National Design Museum in America.
He has made written contributions to Desktop Magazine, Design Assembly, Australian Creative and Process Journal and has served as a judge at D&AD and AWARD.
He also once found a piece of Nutri-Grain that looked like E.T. then sold it on eBay for a thousand dollars. True story.
Kevin Finn is an internationally respected designer and founder of TheSumOf, a design practice and publisher based in Brisbane, Australia.
Kevin Finn is also the founder, editor and publisher of Open Manifesto, a publication unlike most other design journals in the world, focusing on the intersection of design with social, political, cultural and economic issues. Contributors have included Edward de Bono, Noam Chomsky and Alain de Botton, among many others.
In addition, Finn is founder and producer of DESIGNerd 100+, the world’s first series of graphic design trivia games, featuring questions from some of the most significant designers in the world.
Chris oversees Moon's new business and strategy teams, providing strategic leadership on all major pitches and new client relationships. 2IC to CEO across the business. Moon Communication is one of the countries most respected integrated creative agencies.
Combined education in marketing and creative fields brings a strong passion and instinct for championing exciting and effective creative solutions.
Client experience includes Westfield, Sunglass Hut global, Bis Industries, Qantas, Jetstar, HTC, Brand Jamaica, Tourism Vanuatu.
Nick Gower is the Creative Director and Co-Founder of Mentally Friendly, an independent digital agency with offices in Sydney and London. He is also Co-Founder of The Gand Social, Australia's first independent fashion online store. In addition, Nick is Co-Founder of Tractor Design School, Australia's industry run and proudly non-accredited school for design and digital professionals.
Nick has spent 9 years working closely with business and brands to help them understand and take advantage of the opportunities technology has created for them. Specific expertise includes; Digital planning, Digital retail POS, E-commerce, technology application, user experience and inventing stuff.
Specific experience includes; Working directly with Marketing Managers, Directors or CEO's at A.H.Beard, Coles, Westfield, The Guardian UK, Schwarzkopf
Matt Leach (MC)
Matt Leach is the National Head of Graphic Design for CATC Design School and is a veteran design educator of 11 years. He also holds the role of Campus Director for both Sydney and Online and is responsible for over 3000 students around Australia and all facets of the curriculum they study.
Matt is a fierce supporter of Vocational Education and the Sydney creative industries where he holds a councilor position for the Australian Graphic Design Association. He has written and spoken widely on the benefits of design thinking and is a advocate of the emerging field of gamification.
He’s been a musician, a photographer, event organiser and a publisher. He loves being involved in community and regularly seeks ways to bring all of his interests together.
On Sundays he gardens and plays princesses with his daughters.
