Description

A staged reading of a new Australian play.

It’s 1927. Esther Cole and Bobby Scott are stars of vaudeville and best friends. When a stranger is murdered in front of Esther it sparks a journey to the Victorian Goldfields and a train trip to Shanghai. The friends enlist lovers, confront family secrets and race against time to find the killer.

This staged reading of a new play by playwright Mary-Anne Gifford features the cast: Oliver Burton, Zoe Carides, Michelle Lim Davidson, Sandra Eldridge, John Gomez Goodway, Peter Kowitz, Lindy Sardelic, Nick Simpson-Deeks, Jessica Jantina Vickers, with dramaturgy by David Fenton.

Shanghai Express is a dramatic thriller with comedy and songs.

The writing, development and presentation of the play, Shanghai Express, comprises the major practical component of Mary-Anne’s PhD in practice-based research.
