About this Event

S.H. Ervin Gallery Timed Entry

One of Sydney’s premier art galleries, the S.H. Ervin Gallery is located at Sydney’s Observatory Hill within walking distance to The Rocks and Barangaroo, presents an outstanding display of Australian art. Reconnect with cultural heritage at the S.H. Ervin Gallery with safe physical distancing and numbers on site managed through timed entry from Tuesday to Sunday weekly.

Until Sunday 20 September - Portia Geach Memorial Award exhibition presents works from Australian women artists representing diversity in contemporary portraiture. The $30,000 Award in its 56th year, is recognised as an important acknowledgement of the talents and creativity of Australian women portrait painters and continues to play a major role in developing the profile of Australian women artists.

Monday 21 – Friday 25 September – Gallery closed for exhibition installation

Saturday 26 September to Sunday 29 November – Salon des Refuasés: The ‘alternative’ Archibald and Wynne Prize selection exhibition.

Each year our panel is invited to go behind the scenes of the judging process for the annual Archibald Prize for portraiture and Wynne Prize for landscape painting and figure sculpture at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, to select an exhibition from the many hundreds of works entered in both prizes but not chosen for the official award exhibition.

The Salon des Refusés exhibition at the S.H. Ervin Gallery has established an excellent reputation that rivals the selections in the ‘official’ exhibition, with works selected for quality, diversity, humour and experimentation, and which examine contemporary art practices, different approaches to portraiture and responses to the landscape.

Our first session for entry opens at 11am, with last entry at 4pm for 5pm closing.

Session times are as follows:

11am – 12pm

12pm – 1pm

1pm – 2pm

2pm – 3pm

3pm – 4pm

4pm – 5pm
