Event description

Description

Can sex and art save the world?

A growing movement of ecosexuals think so! Join sexuality educator Siren Vandoll in a discussion about how engaging with the Earth as a lover can change our relationship with nature, ownership, art, politics, activism and sustainability. This workshop will explore the spectrum of ecosexual expression including its physical, emotional and spiritual manifestations, as well as examining the various intersections with areas like feminism, anti-colonialism and animal welfare/veganism. This workshop does not require any existing knowledge.

We're also thrilled to be screening the documentary Goodbye Gauley Mountain: An Ecosexual Love Story as part of this event. This autobiographical documentary of ecosexual lovers Beth Stephens’ and Annie Sprinkle’s documents their journey from San Francisco to West Virginia to visit Beth’s family and join the fight against a devastating new coal mining technique, mountain top removal, and explores the devastating global consequences to us all.

By juxtaposing sadness and humor, love and greed, beauty and devastation, it braids Beth’s West Virginia coalfield hillbilly past, with the promise of ecosexuality in order to deploy new strategies of resistance and make the fight against environmental destruction more sexy, fun, hopeful and diverse. It asks, what would happen if we changed our relationship from Earth as mother, to Earth as lover? It’s a compelling story of small communities facing annihilation for short-term corporate gain, but it’s also a story about hope, love-and how, finding strength together, we can resist, and fight for justice in our own queer loving ways.

Nikki Darling will have free, 100% vegan safer sex and pleasure samples available for all attendees, as well as a special discount voucher for use on nikkidarling.com.au.

Loop has an extensive drinks menu and light meals and snacks will be available (please feel free to enjoy dinner before or even during the workshop and screening - Loop staff are experts at stealth-delivering pizza right to your seat!)

Note: There will be some opportunities for contributing to light whole-group discussion, but no required participation or interaction between participants.
