Event description
This workshop examines sensory processing differences and the impact on behaviour using a positive behaviour support framework.

About this Event

This workshop provides practical strategies to teach replacement behaviours so that children and students can have their sensory needs met without utilising tricky behaviour. Positive behaviour support is an evidence based method where appropriate behaviour is increased and behaviour that interferes with learning is reduced. It provides a supportive learning environment for children/ students and is an essential tool for educators and parents of children with tricky behaviour.

We will cover the four functions of behaviour (sensory, escape, attention and tangible) and how tricky behaviour occurs because it meets a child/ student's need.

Sensory processing differences will be explored.

The session will include practical ideas to assist children/ students to have a toolbox of strategies that they can utilise when they need to adjust their energy level thus circumventing tricky behaviour.

Intended Audience:

Junior primary, primary teachers, secondary teachers & special educators.
