Self Portraits of Resilience
Event Information
About this Event
Please note: this workshop has been organised for people who live, work or spend time in the City of Hume, Victoria, Australia.
In recognition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gendered Violence, we're inviting you to creatively express your strength and resilience against family violence.
First you'll briefly hear from the Northern Community Legal Centre about the significance of family violence in our community, and learn about some of the challenges people face when reporting their situation.
This will be followed by a drawing class with professional artist Shay Downer, giving you the skills to draw a self-portrait of yourself, depicting your inner power and ability to overcome adversity.
What you'll need:
- Paper or sketchbook
- Graphite pencils (recommend at least one of the following grades: 2B, 4B, 6B or 9B)
- Eraser
- Sharpener
Optional:
- Charcoal - willow or compressed, or any other drawing materials you have at hand.
- An A4 copy of your selfie photo to work with
When you're done, you can share your masterpiece online, using the official hashtag #16DaysCampaign.
The workshop will be held online and a Zoom link will be sent to those who register.
Places are strictly limited so please let us know if you can no longer make it.
This class is recommended for people over the age of 18 years old . Young people are welcome but we ask that you consider the sensitive nature of the topics that will be discussed when deciding if this workshop is right for you.
