Event Details

Using ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 (or 10.2), learn advanced ArcPy (and Python) techniques which you can apply in your day-to-day geoprocessing and spatial data access work.

This self-paced course, which you can do anytime in your home or office, has been written by an ArcGIS Desktop, Geoprocessing and Python Specialist with 25+ years of experience and is designed to take about 8 hours to complete.

It builds upon skills learned in introductory Python for Geoprocessing and Mapping courses and is for GIS analysts and specialists, who want to extend their ArcPy and Python skills to customise ArcGIS for geoprocessing and data access by using some features and workflows available at ArcGIS 10.0 but with an emphasis on others which are new at ArcGIS 10.1 (or 10.2).

After completing this course, you will have the skills and confidence to:

  • Understand and use Esri's Python Template to write code that is consistent, organised and easier to re-use
  • Work with the Data Access module of ArcPy (arcpy.da) which is new at ArcGIS 10.1
  • Develop Python Only Toolboxes (*.pyt) which are new at ArcGIS 10.1
  • Create and use Geoprocessing Packages (*.gpk) which are new at ArcGIS 10.1

You should be familiar with the use of ArcGIS 10, ArcPy, Python and Windows based software before undertaking this course.

  • A workbook of approximately 80 A4 pages, a DVD with about 4Gb of training data, postage to send them to you, and email support (directly related to the course materials) are included.
  • You will need your own laptop/PC with ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 SP1 (or 10.2), and Python 2.7 installed and licensed.  Whether your laptop/PC meets the Minimum (and preferably Recommended) specification can be checked against the ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop System Requirements which include a test which can be run to do so.
  • Internet access is desirable but is NOT required for any of the exercises.  Only an ArcGIS Basic (formerly called ArcView) license and no extensions are required.
  • For any queries, please contact Graeme Browning (; 0412 038 384) direct or via the Contact the Organizer button.  For example, you may want to discuss options if you do not have an ArcGIS license, or if you are unable to purchase using the Credit Card facilities provided here.
