Description

Self-Hoisting – how do I know my client is ready?

When a person with a disability looses their ability to weight bear, they need to be transferred via a hoist. This transition to a hoist can be a significant milestone in the life of that person because they now are dependent on another person for their most basic needs. Not only can this be a challenge for the person emotionally, it can also involve significant costs associated with the care they now need.

Whilst traditional hoisting solutions involve the need for a care giver, there are self-hoisting options available. These systems eliminate the need for a care giver and enable the person themselves to manage their transfers. As health professionals advising our clients on safe and efficient transfer methods, how do we know a self-hoist system offers a safe transfer solution?

This workshop will explore the idea of self-hoisting and examine the skill set a client needs to display for a self-hoisting system to offer a safe transfer solution. Health professionals will leave the workshop with a framework for determining if a client is a suitable candidate to explore self-hoisting.
