Second show: EMPRESS live @ Colour!
Event Information
About this Event
Empress is back! After their year in forced hibernation, the 6-piece collective is ready to showcase what they have been creating. The groove-based ensemble will have added a second show at colour, after their first show sold out in less than 3 days! With a secret support act TBA, get your tickets quick and come celebrate the return of the live music scene, as well as women in music.
Empress strives to create a unique and innovative platform for three-part vocal harmony, composing and arranging songs primarily focused around the power and complexities of the female voice. The ensemble consists of three front-women singing in innovative three-part harmony, supported by synth-based electronic dance grooves. The lack of female fronted bands in the Melbourne electronic music scene is substantial and Empress wants to be proactive in creating platforms and opportunities for young women in this genre.
Empress takes inspiration from bands such as Tune yards, Sylvan Esso, Hiatus Kayote and even Destiny’s child, writing unique and extensive compositions in the neo-soul and RnB genres.

We live, work and play on land that was forcibly taken from Aboriginal people. To this day, there is no Treaty with our First Nations communities, who continue to be affected by colonisation. We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, on whose land this event will take place. We pay our respects to the Elders past, present and emerging and recognise that sovereignty has never been ceded. We welcome First Nations patrons to get in touch with us if they wish to attend this event, free of charge.
