Event description

Description

SeCo's Young Social Entrepreneurs Conference brings together the inspiring minds behind some of Melbourne's most successful social enterprises with budding young entrepreneurs keen to get involved in the social enterprise sphere. The event will feature a variety of speakers presenting on their journey from idea to execution, the hurdles they encountered and the triumphs they have experienced since setting up their social enterprise.

OUR PRESENTERS:

Tosh Szatow - Energy For The People

Tosh and Alex started Energy For The People to address the pressing concerns of climate change. They provide independent, clean energy services, investing profits into training and employment opportunities for at risk youth and long term unemployed. They also support young change makers with big ideas, while also running their unique People's Solar and Boompower platforms. To find out more, visit their website at http://www.energyforthepeople.com.au/

Katherine Leong - Social Innovation Manager @ NAB

Katherine is the Social Innovation Manager at the National Australia Bank. Her role is to develop and coordinate initiatives within NAB which support the growth of the Impact Investment market in Australia. Her interest is in solving social and environmental issues through sustainable business, driving system change across the corporate, government and community sectors. Katherine’s role at NAB has lead her to establish various grants supporting social enterprise. Katherine also co-founded Environmental Film Festival Australia (EFFA), using film as a medium for storytelling to inform, engage and inspire Australians about a variety of environmental issues.

Matthew Boyd - Vollie

Vollie is a platform which connects volunteers with non-profits, charities, and social enterprises, allowing them to provide their time and expertise to an organisation's projects. Volunteers can work on projects they are passionate about and which align with their skill set from anywhere, any time. Vollie projects are exclusively online, meaning that volunteers can support non-profits with their skills and experience from anywhere in the world, at any time. Rob Caslick - Two Good Food Co.

Ten years ago Rob, Cathal and a friend started out cooking BBQ dinners for the homeless in Sydney's Kings Cross. They later transitioned to a soup kitchen model and in 2015 devised the "Buy One, Give One" regime. Through this program, every meal purchased through Two Good Food donates a meal to their domestic violence refuge partners. They also employ women from the refuges they serve, helping them to get back on their feet. Part of their social impact is sustainability, which is achieved through using recycled packaging and organic produce. Hungry, or want to learn more? Check them out at http://www.twogood.com.au/

PANEL DISCUSSION / FURTHER INFORMATION

Towards the end of the evening we will be holding a panel discussion on the essence of social enterprise and what it takes to run a social business. We invite our guests to interact in the discussion at this time, providing questions and topics they would like the presenters to discuss.

In previous years our conference has featured speakers from Thankyou, Fruit2Work, RockIt, Bendigo Bank and Business for Development, as well as gift bags filled with goodies from Who Gives a Crap, Inspirationery, Thankyou and the Bendigo Bank.

The event is fully catered. There will be gourmet finger food (including a range of vegetarian and vegan options) and a selection of beverages provided. A portion of the evening will be dedicated to mingling to enable our guests and speakers to interact personally with one another.

If you have any queries regarding the event don't hesitate to contact one of our team! Just email enquiries@seco.org.au and we will respond to your query as quickly as possible. We look forward to seeing you at our conference!
