Lucky Jim

The Cashews

Nyash

This will be an outdoor event for the audience. If the weather is inclement, we'll keep the bands undercover but you will need to bring your own rainjackets or umbrellas!

We invite you to bring a picnic, or grab a sausage from our fundraiser bbq, a spectacular vegan cookie fresh from Sweetbones' ovens or some Indonesian-style street food from chef Jon at Culture Kitchen Foodlab.

More about the bands:

Lucky Jim has been playing and teaching music for over 20 years. His band Dr Stovepipe has been playing music for kids in schools around Australia. Lucky Jim's solo album features songs in all genre's of musice, for all ages, with titles like 'There's something stinky in the fridge' and 'Grandma makes good compost', which will have you all up and dancing! The first five registrations Scullin Twilight Sounds will win a free download of Lucky Jim's album 'There’s something Stinky in the Fridge and Other Family Favourites’

The Cashews are a local duo who write and perform quirky acoustic songs with a strong Canberra flavour – featuring landmarks like the Tuggeranong Parkway and the safety lights on Mount Majura. The Cashews appeal to a wide range of audiences and are well known in for their “guerrilla gigs” and willingness satirical singalongs on ABC666. They used to have a website, but they forgot to renew it so now your best chance of finding them is to scour the wild grassy plains of the CSIRO Ginninderra Experiment Station at full moon - or in Scullin this month!

Nyash features members of Zambezi Sounds / The Ellis Collective / Los Chavos / Dub Dub Goose / Dubba Rukki! This 9 piece orchestra combines the mighty afro funk of Fela Kuti with the tight grooves of a jazz horn section to create an experience that is both cerebral and visceral. Your body will move to the African poly-rhythms while your mind is stimulated by dextrous improvisational fire emanating from brass. From West Belconnen to West Africa and beyond, this afrobeat collective will keep your nyash shaking!
