Writers: Learn how to use Scrivener

Scrivener is the go-to software for writers. It’s used every day by novelists, screenwriters, non-fiction writers, students, academics, lawyers, journalists, translators and more.

Scrivener can’t tell you how to write, but it does provide everything you need to start writing and keep writing. It gives you the right tools for the job. And having the right tools can get you a long way.

Everyone knows that writing is hard work. You might have a brilliant idea that you’re anxious to get out there. But there’s a lot of effort between light-bulb moment and final publication. You need to build your ideas, plan and structure, write and revise, write and revise, write and revise, and edit hard. Scrivener lets you do all your work in one program. Even your research will be where you need it.

This training will introduce you to Scrivener. You’ll work on an example document to learn how to create and organise a writing project in manageable pieces that can be moved around as you revise and edit. If you’re not happy with the result, it’s easy to revert back to the original document.

Getting ready for Scrivener training

1. Enrol in the right course: Scrivener operates differently on PC and Mac. This course is for Mac. The PC course is in March

2. Download Scrivener.
Go to:
https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener/download (it’s free for 30 days and costs just US$45 if you decide to buy)

3. Bring along your laptop

Your presenter: Ann Earle

Ann Earle has been writing for business for most of her working life. She is Principal at Dashing Documents.

One of Ann’s strengths is her ability to understand and absorb the sometimes complex nature of computer software.

She initially mastered Word and used it to make the most of the long documents she was writing. But Word has its shortcomings and, when introduced to Scrivener, Ann couldn’t resist it. She describes it as a brilliant, time-saving way to write anything.

Ann uses both PCs and Macs, and has Scrivener on both. She loves to teach people how to use software more efficiently.
