Event description

Description

Then Daddy Takes His Place in an Australian Landscape is a new film work by Erin Crouch.

Made in response to a story about a sheep farmer who, after delivering a stillborn lamb, loses his memory completely. The sheep farmer stands in a paddock, with no comprehension of time or place, and all he keeps asking is:

"Is it cricket season or footy season?"

Then Daddy Takes His Place in an Australian Landscape structurally resists forming a singular narrative to instead take shape through a series of filmed actions that fold and unfold 'the story' to consider what are its conditions? And what rests on the inside, outside and at the edges of its understanding.

This film was made as part of an MFA at Monash Univesity and is presented as a part of the 2017 MADA MFA Graduation Exhibition.

Note: The film runs for 57mins and will begin at 3pm sharp

Getting There and Access

Parliament Station is within walking distance and route 109 has stop on nearby Spring and Collins Streets. Access to the front entrance of the venue is via the stairs leading down from the Upper Plaza at street level 1 Macarthur. Wheelchair access to the venue is via Spring Street.

This film was made on the traditional and lands of the Wautharong, Gunaikurnai and Guringai peoples, and this screening takes place on the traditional lands of the people of the Kulin Nations. I wish to pay my respects to their Elders, both past, present and future and acknowledge that Indigenous sovereignty of these lands has never been ceded, and the processes of colonisation, occupation, incarceration and genocide that began over two centuries ago continue to this day.
