Screening: Silent Storm
Set against a backdrop of the Cold War, the saga follows celebrated scientist Hedley Marston's attempt to blow the whistle on radioactive fallout from the British atomic tests in Australia. From 1957 to 1978, scientists secretly removed bone samples from over 21,000 Australian dead embryos and children’s bodies searching for Strontium 90, a deadly by-product of atomic testing. Marston’s claims that cities and grazing lands were contaminated and that Strontium 90 was in the milk supply were officially disputed; the scientist became a target of counter-espionage. Starring Billie Brown and Paula Arundell. Docu-drama directed by Peter Butt in 2003.
