Set during the 1930s in the remote highlands of Tasmania, Ruby Rose (Melita Jurisic) lives with her husband, Henry (Chris Haywood), and stepson, Gem (Rod Zuanic). Ruby is alone for much of the time and is afraid of the darkness. She decides to travel off the high country and finds her dear grandmother and re-connects with her estranged father. In the process of discovery she confronts and transcends her fears that had held her so tightly.
An iconic Tasmanian film, The Tale of Ruby Rose won 4 awards at the 1987 Venice Biennale Film Festival, including the Elvira Notari Prize for Best Director and Best Actress and an AACTA for Best Original Music Score the same year.
This is a fundraising event for The Mountain Huts Preservation Society.
Cafe will be open for food and drinks, we are licensed also.
