Description

Primary Science Lab Teacher Support Program
Hosted by Dr Tabitha Yngstrom B.Sc., M.Sc, Ph.D.

This workshop is to inform and inspire teachers in primary schools who are:

  • considering setting up a science lab in their schools (DoE Science Lab Grant recipients) or
  • becoming a science specialist or
  • have the responsibility of teaching science in their class

We look at a range of practical ideas to run an effective primary school science lab and how to run a science specialist program in your school.

Topics include:

  • Laboratory organisation and the design of the learning space
  • Resources and resourcing
  • Science communication in schools
  • How to run a practical science lesson
  • After-school activities
  • Safety in the lab
  • How to keep your lab clean
  • The importance of PD
  • Technology to support your practical sessions

Dr Tabitha Yngstrom B.Sc., M.Sc, Ph.D.

Dr Tab is a self confessed science nut who has been experimenting on anything available from a very young age. She finally put this ‘experience’ to use by completing a Ph.D in Immunology at King’s College, London before moving on to various research posts. Since having children she has re-discovered her love of general science and messy, gooey experiments which has led to the development of her website ScienceBites.net. Among other projects, Dr Tab is currently the science specialist at St.Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School in Karrinyup.
