Event description

Description

Everything we do leaves a digital trace. Data is the most valuable commodity and it is also changing the world we live in.

‘Big Data’ is a catch phrase used to describe data collections defined by four V’s: high volume, high velocity, high variety and veracity.
We look at how big data is utilised in practice with a focus on data science (techniques used to extract insights and information from data) and data analytics (applying an algorithmic process to derive insights from data)

As part of Perth Data Science week for 2018, Scitech will be hosting an event for educators. Join us for a Q&A style event where four experts in the field will focus on the future of data in relation to education, research, security and careers.

Bringing educators and experts together to discuss:
o how schools can use their data to make informed decisions
o the challenges (and thrills) of large amounts of data
o future key challenges around data security, jobs and the role of AI
o using large databases to enhance subject teaching and links to the curriculum

This will be followed by a behind the scenes look at how the Scitech Planetarium works and an immersive visualisation of the latest big data research about the known, mapped universe. We take a journey through the night sky and to the edge of space as we know it.

Planning is currently underway for this event. The names of guest speakers and program details will be updated once confirmed.
