Description
The Science Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Symposium provides a national platform for experts and industry leaders to discuss evidence-based solutions to enhance gender equity and diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM). Distinguished speakers will discuss practical outcomes such as:
- How senior leaders can support the careers of all women and underrepresented groups in STEMM;
- Proactively enhancing diversity and inclusion in science and technology;
- Engaging male leaders to support progressive change; and
- Inspiring institutions to improve equity policies, programs and outcomes.
Keynote speakers: Elizabeth Broderick AO, Australian Sex Discrimination Commissioner 2007-2015 who now heads the Male Champions of Change program | Ita Buttrose AO OBE, Editor, Australian of the Year 2013, Co-host Studio 10 | David Ruebain, Chief Executive, Equality Challenge Unit, UK

SAGE is running a Pilot of Athena SWAN in Australia – this is a national gender equity and diversity evaluation and accreditation program run by the Academy of Science and the Academy of Technology and Engineering. The SAGE Pilot involves over 30 institutions in higher education, medical research and government agencies. The SAGE Symposium will showcase how the SAGE Pilot will improve science and innovation in Australia.
The SAGE Symposium commences at 9am (registration is from 8.30am). The event closes 5pm. The Academy of Science and the Academy of Technology and Engineering will also host a VIP Cocktail Party from 5.30pm to 7pm.
