Event description

Description

Want to know the whos, whats, whens, wheres and hows of Alderaan to Tatooine? How accurate is the science in Star Wars really? Will we ever be able to actually use a lightsaber? Can we build Death Star-style superlasers? How do you fight a war in space? Or maybe you just want to know why the marketing for Star Wars was so successful, from a time before social media?

Bring these burning questions and more to ask our expert panel at Mount Stromlo Observatory’s inaugural Science at the Movies - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story!

Panellists will include:

  • Céline d'Orgeville: instrument scientist and laser physicist
  • Andrew Hughes: lecturer in marketing
  • Sarah McIntyre: astrobiologist
  • Stephen Coleman: space and military ethicist
  • Elise Hampton: data scientist

The event will be MCed by Laura Tchilinguirian from ABC Canberra Drive.

Your ticket includes a drink, ice cream, and popcorn as well as some exciting photo opportunities with the Rebel Alliance. Furthermore, dressing up as your favourite Star Wars character is HIGHLY encouraged with prizes to be awarded for best costume!

The movie will start at 7:00pm and will be followed by our panel. Make sure you arrive early for photos!
