Create your own sensory toy!

About this event

Come along and learn how to create your very own sensory toy using slow stitching and simple craft techniques.

As humans we experience and learn about the world we live in through our sensations; sight, smell, touch, taste and sound. This workshop focuses on mindfully slowing down, reflecting on and discovering sensations that engage, excite and create calm in our bodies. You will leave with your very own, uniquely designed sensory toy.

What to expect:

  • Learn slow stitching technique
  • Explore using your senses for self-regulation
  • Create your very own unique and creative sensory toy designed around your sensory preferences that can be a resource for stimulating the senses and calming the nervous system.
  • Experience mindful craft making

About the Facilitator

This session is facilitated by Mary-Helen Daly, a qualified Transpersonal Art Therapist and local artist who explores process-based art making for wellbeing, self-expression and developing self-awareness.

Age: This is a family friendly event, but recommended for children 5+. We will be using scissors and embroidery needles so young children will need to be assisted by parents.

Experience: No previous experience required

Materials and equipment: All materials supplied

For participants under the age of 16, parents and/or guardians of children must remain in the library for the duration of the program.

Disclaimer about non-attendance:

If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces and repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations, bookings may be refused in the future.

PLEASE NOTE: Attendance at our events may be digitally recorded through photographs and/or videos. These images may be used by Georges River Libraries in their publications, social media, council’s website or newspaper. Please notify staff if you do not wish to be filmed.
