Event description
Hands-on workshop sessions for kids of all ability levels aged 8-17, designed to improve skills and understanding in robotics and coding.

About this event

If you’re looking for some exciting activities for your children to participate in these school holidays, then Micromelon Robotics’ student workshop program will provide hands-on learning activities in robotics and coding.

Our popular workshop events are a great way for students aged 8-17 and all levels of experience to get an introduction to robotics, or further their skills with fun activities in a collaborative environment.

Across the day, our team of engineers and entrepreneurs will run two workshops, with students being able to participate in either one workshop, or both depending on their experience in robotics so far.

Session 1 - Introduction to Coding and Robotics - Teach a Robot To React To the World Around It - 9:00am - 12:00pm

Robots don’t see the world the same way we do, but they still have many different ways to understand the world. In this workshop participants will get a hands-on opportunity to see the world the way a Micromelon Rover does, and learn how to teach it to interact with the physical world.

Designed for ages 8-12, no robotics or coding experience is required.

What to expect:

  • Participants will learn the basics of how robots see the world and how they are programmed.
  • They will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge with their problem solving skills to make robots interact with them in new and exciting ways.
  • Over the course of the workshop they will gain skills, understanding, and knowledge in a fun and collaborative environment.

Session 2 - Problem Solving with Robots - 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Robotics and automation are all around us, everything from vacuum cleaners to cars and manufacturing. Participants will learn how everyday robots are programmed to accomplish their tasks, and then program a Micromelon Rover to solve a real world problem in the same way.

Designed for ages 11-17, it is highly recommended that participants have some prior coding experience or have attended the introductory Micromelon Robotics workshop.

What to expect:

  • Participants will learn about the concept and design techniques behind some of the robotics and automation they see every day.
  • They will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge with their problem-solving skills to design robotic programs that accomplish everyday tasks such as adaptive cruise control, lane guidance, or balancing challenges.
  • Over the course of the workshop, they will gain skills, understanding, and knowledge in a fun and collaborative environment.
