School Holiday Program: Shadow Puppet Workshops with Green Beetle
Overview
Please note, two tickets minimum are required as one carer/parent is required per child for this activity.
Join Sam and Melinda Bowker for a collaborative concert inspired by the collections of the Chau Chak Wing Museum.
In this hands-on creative workshop, we will design, draw, and create a shadow puppet so we can perform an original story together with live music and a vibrant Egyptian shadow puppet screen.
Workshops include materials, guidance, and a unique performance - and yes, you can take your shadow puppet home!

- Tuesday 13 January - Underwater
- Wednesday 14 January - The Sky
- Thursday 15 January - Beetles and Bugs
- Friday 16 January - Ancient Myths

At least one parent/carer must attend per child/ren booking.
About Our Performers
Dr Sam Bowker is an Art Historian at Charles Sturt University and Melinda Bowker is an award-winning classically-trained singer. They perform together as Green Beetle, combining the Australian Christmas beetle and the Egyptian scarab to perform collaborative shadow puppet concerts. They are returning to the museum where they performed Goha and The Flea in the Sham el-Naseem festival in 2025, creating five new shadow puppet workshops.
