On October 10, it's all about Scaling your business / Startup through Bilateral Connections QLD & LATAM.  


ALAYP in a partnership with Trade Investment Queensland - TIQ.  Welcome, all the community to join us at our ALAYP event. In our third Emprende session, we will have guests with extensive experience doing, or facilitating, businesses and projects between Latin America, Queensland, and Australia. We will conduct an interactive panel discussion addressing the key challenges for Queenslanders, Australians and Latin Americans who are starting, doing businesses or trading in both regions.

Alex Pessagno - Trade & Investment Queensland TIQ

Alex Pessagno was appointed as TIQ’s Commissioner for Latin America in February 2014. TIQ’s representative office is based in Santiago, Chile and works across Latin America with a focus on the Chile, Brazil, Colombia and Peru markets.

Prior to joining TIQ, Alex worked for over 20 years in domestic and international business development and marketing in Latin America, the United States,  and Europe for multinational companies, including KPMG, Ericsson and MCI, and several small and medium sized companies. During his career he has lived in Argentina, Mexico, the United States of America, Spain and Chile.

Alex holds a Master’s Degree in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University in Virginia, United States of America and a Law Degree from Museo Social Argentino University in Argentina.

Esteban Gomez -  Partner Holding Redlich

Esteban is a Partner with Holding Redlich, a national firm of lawyers. Originally from Argentina, Esteban has lived and worked in Australia for over 15 years in various legal positions, focusing on corporate law, capital raisings and mergers & acquisitions, both in Australia and involving cross border elements.

Esteban has assisted companies both large and small, publicly listed and private to achieve their transactional goals. He has experience in corporate governance issues, including the ASX corporate governance principles, and is also skilled at advising start-up companies to navigate their formation and initial growth stages. Esteban has advised on transactions encompassing several industries and sectors, including online, education, energy & resources, construction, government, retail, regulated credit, telecommunications, and information technology. He also has experience working as an in-house lawyer in the banking, aviation and talent services industries. Esteban is actively involved with the Latin American community in Australia. Hugh Thompson - Project Manager Africa & Americas Thiess

Hugh Thompson is a Project Manager at THIESS, focused on developing projects in the Americas.  He has extensive experience developing and delivering mining services businesses in Latin America for Australian companies. Hugh speaks Spanish and Portuguese and has lived in Latin America for 10 years in total in Chile, Argentina, and Brasil.  

In Hugh words, “the key to developing a successful business in Latin America is acknowledging that the culture of the specific country will be different to Australia, and then understanding what changes you need to implement - both here and there - to manage such cultural differences.”

Mauro MezzanoCo-Founder, partner, co CEO, Vantaz Group

Partner co-founder of Vantaz Group, a business consultancy with operations in Chile, Australia, the United States and Peru that, for more than 17 years, advises multinationals, especially mining companies, in strategy, technology and productivity.

He is a specialist in the design and management of business efficiency projects, organizational change, and supplier development, standing out by linking in a comprehensive manner the technical processes with the business vision and management goals of the companies and by ensuring the implementation of the projects and the generation of changes. In Vantaz, he also leads the mining market intelligence unit.

Industrial civil engineer and MBA, both from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, he has directed more than a hundred projects for various industries in Australia, Singapore, USA. and Latin America. He is a mentor to Endeavor and a member of Minnovex and in the past, he was an EY management consultant.

He has been distinguished with the Emprendedor Joven awards (PUCV, 2008), Volunteer of the Year (Endeavor, 2012) and Entrepreneur of the Year of the Chilean Chilean Chamber of Commerce (2014).
