Event description

Description

This sashiko stitching workshop focusses on hitomezashi (one stitch sashiko).

Vicki from Bonsai Woman will show you how to stitch two beautiful threaded hitomezashi patterns using a long sashiko needle and Japanese thimble. Stitching technique and pattern transferring will be covered, then you will explore a colourful range of plant dyed threads and fabrics to give your work a contemporary edge.

Participants will take home at least one sample of each of the two patterns pictured. The samples will be large enough to turn into a pin cushion, lavender sachet, coaster or mount into a card.

Workshop includes a delicious morning tea of Japanese snacks, and an introduction to the history of sashiko.

No embroidery experience is necessary.
