Event Details

Anyone arriving in Athens will soon catch a glimpse of the Acropolis. One of the most iconic sights in Greece, this sheer-sided hill rising high above the Athenian plain, topped by some of the most famous temples in the world, dominates the skyline both night and day. Make this your first port of call: most of Athens is visible from it, and it is a great place to orientate yourself with regard to the city – irrespective of the spectacular architecture on display!

Acropolis, Greece’s most emblematic monument was largely a testament to the power she held over the ancient world. Built atop a flat rock, rising 150m (490 ft) above sea level and covering a surface area of about 7.4 acres, the Acropolis still holds many secrets. Acropolis is a universal symbol of the Classical spirit of the Greek civilization. But its most enduring quality is the simple fact it embodiment ideas that have survived the course of history and are still instrumental in our lives today. In other words, the Acropolis of Athens equals Democracy. It always has and it always will.

A half day tour with our archaelogist expert guide Dr. Nikos Koutsoumpos, invites you to discover Pericles steps and the classical monuments of Athens. Starting point the Acropolis site: The greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens, dedicated primarily to its patron, the goddess Athena, dominates the center of the modern city from the rocky crag known as the Acropolis. The Acropolis of the fifth BC is the most accurate reflection of the splendor, power and wealth of Athens at its greatest peak, the golden age of Pericles. The cultural stroll lead us to the, Filopappos Hill, also called the Hill of the Muses – and to the Hill of the Pnyx which was the official meeting place of the Athenian democratic assembly (ecclesia).

Our stroll ends visiting the new Acropolis Museum opened for the public in 2009. It contains a wealth of finds from the Acropolis, including wonderful Archaic sculpture, some of which still has traces of the original paint! The exhibition is organized according to topographic, chronologic and thematic criteria, thus providing visitors with a comprehensive picture of the sacred rock and its history throughout antiquity.
