SafeWork NSW will be hosting a workshop on Asbestos and Crystalline Silica awareness. The event is FREE for all but places are limited so register today.

45 minutes - Asbestos Awareness

Whilst asbestos use is banned, it continues to have a huge impact on Australians. Asbestos is still present in many workplaces and buildings built before 2004. Large numbers of Australian workers continue to be diagnosed with asbestos related illnesses, many years after they were exposed.

The presentation will cover information on:

* Where is asbestos found
* Determining friable or non-friable
* Removal requirements
* Responsibilities and training requirements
* Safe work methods
* Safe Work Method Statement

45 minutes - Crystalline Silica Dust Exposure in the Workplace

Crystalline silica (quartz) is a common mineral found in most rocks, sands, and clays. Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) has been identified as a priority chemical requiring the elimination and reduction of exposure in Australian workplaces. Learn how to keep yourself and others safe when working with materials such as sand, sandstone, Caesar stone, granite, brick and concrete in building, demotion and manufacturing related trades.

The presentation will cover information on:

* What is Crystalline Silica and what is Respirable Crystalline Silica

* Where is it found? Products containing Crystalline Silica

* People and industries at risk

* Health effects and exposure standards

* Risk Control measures / Safe work methods

* Requirements under WHS Regulation 2017
