About this event
Content Warning: Mentions of sex and sexual violence.
The STOP Campaign
The STOP Campaign is a grassroots movement empowering young people to create and sustain positive socio-cultural change regarding sex and sexual violence through starting conversations and breaking down stigmas. We are focused on tackling sexual violence in Australian learning communities through empowerment, education, activism and awareness. We are a volunteer-run intersectional feminist organisation that values intersectionality, integrity, respect and passion.
The Safe Response Toolkit: A Toolkit for Sexual Violence Victim-Survivors and Their Supporters (SRT)
The SRT is a comprehensive toolkit for sexual violence victim-survivors and their supporters within the ACT community. The SRT will provide up-to-date, trauma-informed and intersectional information about the legal, medical and personal avenues available to victim-survivors after an experience of sexual violence. This includes information about how to safely respond to disclosures, how to report sexual violence through a range of avenues and available crisis and post-crisis support services in the ACT. The SRT will address the inadequacy of information pertaining to sexual violence responses and support avenues within the ACT. The SRT will consolidate the services into a one-stop-shop resource that is available in various accessible formats, thereby providing victim-survivors with the autonomy to navigate their journey after an experience with sexual violence.
The SRT Launch Event
The SRT Launch Event marks the culmination of 12 months of work by more than 60 passionate, hardworking volunteers and with the help of organisations and individuals in the ACT community. It will be a chance to celebrate the SRT and its intended impact by bringing people together from our diverse community. The launch event will be held on Sunday 22 May 2022, from 2-4pm at the RUC in Turner. The event will entail a series of inspiring speeches from leaders within the sexual violence space, storytelling and reflections, as well as a chance to meet the team that has been working to bring the SRT to life.
Ticketing
SRT Launch Event tickets are $10. All ticket sales go towards funding the SRT. When registering using Eventbrite, any guest can opt to have their ticket subsidised (paid for) by The STOP Campaign. Event Accessibility
The RUC is wheelchair accessible and limited parking is available at the venue. The STOP Campaign is committed to facilitating safe events, which means creating a safe space to avoid re-traumatisation or vicarious trauma. There will be safe spaces at the event and STOP Campaign volunteers available for assistance. Furthermore, the event will be focussed on reclaiming spaces, particularly bars like The RUC.
Please contact The STOP Campaign directly at events@thestopcampaign.org.au should you have any questions about accessibility at the SRT Launch Event.
Fundraising
The STOP Campaign is an unincorporated non-profit charity which runs solely from small grants, donations, collaborations and fundraising. We currently have $2,500 of funding from YWCA Canberra’s Great Ydeas Small Grants Program. We are immensely grateful for the support provided by YWCA Canberra via this grant, however, our current funding is insufficient to cover the cost of printing physical copies of the SRT. Printing the SRT is crucial to ensure its accessibility to the broader Canberra community through distributions to medical, legal, advocacy, students and other relevant community organisations in the region. All funds raised will contribute to ensuring that printed copies of the SRT are readily available throughout Canberra, and accessible to those who need it most.
$10,000 will allow us to print 2000 physical copies of the SRT and advertising materials to be distributed in the Canberra community and will ensure victim-survivors, their supporters and the broader community will have access to this important support and awareness-raising resource beyond an online website.
