Sacred Drum Making Workshop for Women $450
Event Information
About this Event
Your body was formed to the beat of a drum. It was one of the first sounds we heard as we were developing foetuses in our mother's womb. It is the primordial sound of the mother's heartbeat, as each cell of our body is formed creating the person you are now. Each cell was created with the music of the drum, the beat that has sung true through the generations who have come before us, and those who will come after us.
The drum is a universal instrument. Not owned by any culture. It has been played by the Celts in Europe, the Native Americans in the USA, and all through Africa, South and Central America, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia for thousands of years. For this reason, you, being who you are today, have the ancestral memory of long ago playing the drum. It is a cross-cultural instrument and Shamanic tool used for thousands of years across all continents. It is the call of the heartbeat, the wild self, and the song of Mother Earth.
Its the sound of coming home.
Join us this weekend as we create our own beautiful sacred drums. This process of 'birthing' a drum allows us to explore our own birth imprint of how we were born into this world, and how this pattern plays out in all our creative endeavours.
We will be sitting in sacred circle together sharing from our hearts, exploring these birth imprints, and finally birthing our own 15 inch round hoop drum.
Birthing your own drum and doing it in this sacred manner, exploring why we drum, how we as women have always been drummers, and that the drum belongs to no particular religion or culture will be covered over the weekend. Weaving the threads of our own birth, and how we birth our projects, babies and creative pursuits into the journey, ends with you owning your own personal Sacred Drum to walk forwards from herewith.
Drums are life-long companions who remind us to live from our hearts rather than our head. Its life is only available to us because an Animal and Tree has been sacrificed and no longer walks with us. This is honoured in our process of creation over the weekend, and we will be working with the Kangaroo medicine to fully respect and honour this kind and gentle animal.
Your completed drum can be used for whatever your heart yearns. Shamanic journeys, music-making, connecting to nature, re-membering ourselves, remembering the call of our heart, during ceremony, at sunset and dawn, to mark a birth, a death, or your menstrual cycle each month - the uses of this most special instrument are endless.
We will be sitting together in the Moon Lodge on Artemis's land in Aldgate. (Making a medicine drum, and it being a tool to connect you to nature, it is essential that the skin be soaked in living water, which we will have access to in the creek).
Connecting in the Moon Lodge, and doing it together in this potent way, you will leave feeling immersed in the sacred feminine and more connected to the mystery's of life and the community of women around you.
You will:
- Go home with your own personally crafted 15 inch round hoop drum.
-Explore the imprint of your own birth and how this impacts your creative power.
-Experience a Shamanic Journey
-Share in the beauty of Song
- Experience sitting in sacred circle -a container of safety, where we bare witness, and listen from our hearts to the medicine we hear from the voices of our sisters.
