Event description

Description

In a world of alternative facts, it can seem like the divide between science, policy and practice is becoming a gaping chasm. Scientists are being increasingly required to demonstrate the ‘impact’ of their research. But in a world where facts and evidence are contested, what is the best approach to achieve impact? Is evidence-based policy desirable or achievable? How can scientists effectively influence complex policy processes, navigating through the politics, values, and vested interests? And how can researchers work with communities or NGOs to influence the political process?

Join us for our second last event of 2017 by welcoming our youngest Scientist Hamza Farah Founder of Ourecosphere.

At age 21 Hamza Farah is a former researcher for a federal member of parliament who completed an undergraduate degree in biotechnology, His currently studying a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Technology at RMIT.

A former Labor party candidate for the 2016 Maribyrnong Election. A published researcher on the carcinogenic effects of PBDEs to humans and the local environment, and the founder of ‘Our Ecosphere’ an International not for profit established to promote equality and a sustainable future for all.
