About this Event

Please join us to meet other South Australia yoga teachers in our community, participate in discussion, and earn 3 CPD points. In this workshop Patricia Lane will share her professional insights both as a Yoga Teacher and as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker in utilizing yoga to assist those with Anxiety and Depression. This event is open to all Yoga teachers, members and non-members alike.

About the Presenter - Patricia Lane

Patricia Lane is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and a Registered Teacher with Yoga Australia and currently works in private practice as a counsellor/psychotherapist and yoga teacher.

Her first yoga teacher training was in the early 1980s with Martyn Jackson, who pioneered the introduction of Iyengar yoga in Australia. More recently she has completed the requirements for Yoga Australia Registration with Wendy Samek of Om Yoga in Adelaide. In between these periods she has graduated with a Masters Degree in Social Work (2004) and worked for ten years in the homelessness and primary health sectors. In this context, she has encountered many people bravely living with minor (and sometimes major) mental health disorders - anxiety and depression being the most common - and became interested in focusing her work in this area. In 2016 she successfully met the requirements to practice specifically in the mental health arena (to deliver focussed psychological strategies) as a social worker.

Patricia has always been interested in the healing of individuals, communities and the planet and has sought to contribute to this end in her professional life. She believes yoga practices are the best way for most of us to be in touch with our own body and to find an inner space which can nourish and strengthen us to meet life’s challenges. As we gain greater sensitivity towards our ‘self’ (physically, mentally, spiritually) this naturally spills into compassion and kindness towards others and care for the earth that sustains us. This orientation towards the teachings of yoga is the foundation for and richly compliments her work as a counsellor and psychotherapist .

This workshop has arisen from her attempts to integrate these two traditions in providing effective mental health interventions.

What's on the agenda?

This presentation includes a practical workshop to explore the nature of anxiety and depression and how yoga can help to navigate these difficult states of mind which will cover the following;
