Did you know that Rutherglen is home to some special trees? The township’s park was established in 1867, at the time there were avenues of Sugar Gums and Elm trees planted along with rare specimen trees. There are some beautiful examples of conifers and other trees of great interest.
This walk takes you past some of the feature trees in the park and its surrounding area.
Discover the State significant, long-leaved Indian Pine, one of only ten in Victoria (5 of which are in Rutherglen). There is the very impressive Morton Bay Fig tree just near our Memorial Hall and the Himalayan Cedar right nearby. We will also see a Eucalyptus of great significance to the Aboriginals who first settled here.
