Event description

Description

Be mesmerised by the stars above Charters Towers and beyond.
Come along and enjoy the sights through the telescope in our Blackheath & Thornburgh College Observatory.

Astronomy is the oldest of the sciences and remains one of the most dynamic and enigmatic. It is a science that is well-served by Blackheath & Thornburgh College’s location in Charters Towers with its clear night skies, far away from the bright lights of cities.

Come and see inside the Sirius observatory dome housing the Celestron CGEM-925 telescope. Watch how both the dome and the telescope are computer driven through SkyX Pro software. The software helps us to locate almost every planet, star and galaxy you can think of that is in the Southern Hemisphere sky that night.

Gaze at the night sky in search of the planets Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus, as well as many different galaxies and nebulae including the spectacular Sombrero Galaxy - pictured in the image taken from the BTC Observatory.
