Help us to #orangetheworld. In a united approach to end violence against women in Australia, Soroptimist International Australia is hosting the Rosie Batty roadshow, a series of breakfast functions to be held in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Hobart and Adelaide.
Also speaking will be Moo Baulch, Chief Executive Officer at Domestic Violence NSW, which is the peak body representing domestic and family violence services in NSW.
Not only will you be able to have breakfast with the inspirational 2015 Australian of the Year, Rosie Batty, you will also help to raise much needed funds for the domestic and family violence legal centres of the Women’s Legal Services Australia. Womens Legal Service NSW has opted for all funds raised at the Sydney breakfast to go towards Bonnie women’s refuge (Bonnie Support Service) to provide a solicitor for a regular drop-in advice service at its premises in south west Sydney. This is a high priority because early access to legal advice can minimise problems from getting bigger if left unaddressed. These include getting Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders, making arrangements for the children, accessing victim’s support and protecting rights to marital property. We need to raise $14,000 to place a solicitor at Bonnie’s one day per week for a year, enabling approximately 250 women escaping violence to access justice and protect their rights. This would mean so much to them.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Please wear something orange - a little brooch or a whole outfit - we want you to #orangetheworld and hope for a brighter future. This is a fundraising event, so please consider bringing a donation or buying a raffle ticket on the day.
