2018 Canteen Road Raise-

Darren Philips and Luke Schapel  are riding 1072km as part of a group from Adelaide to Melbourne on April 7 to raise much needed funds to support teenagers affected by cancer

Road Raise was founded in 2015 to raise vital funds and awareness for CanTeen. Proudly presented by Duncan Basher Hannon for the 3rd year running, Road Raise is fast becoming a highly-sought after event for like-minded professionals with a love of cycling, a sense of community and a desire to push their physical boundaries.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of those involved in Road Raise, CanTeen had raised over $300,000 in the past 2 years which has supported young people cope with cancer in their family, rebuild their foundations and connect with others in the same boat.

The Kerslake Foundation Story-

Imagine having your husband or wife coming home from a doctors appointment, on what seems like a normal day, and them telling you (and your kids) that they have stage 4 melanoma and (at worst case) they could only have 4-6 months to live.

This is exactly what happen to Ben Kerslake's wife, Martha, and their young family in November of 2014 at the age of only 32.

Once Ben had found out about his condition he immediately began traditional therapy in the form of Radiotherapy and immuneotherapy and also had surgery to remove a large tumour in his head. It was unfortunate that Ben already had numerous Tumours through his brain, lungs and abdomen.

Ben was convinced right from the get go, that although his diagnosis, he wasn't merely going to be a statistic and was driven to both educate himself on his cancer and explore other means of treatment.

Ben came across the "Ian Gawler Cancer Foundation" retreat programs, and knew straight away it was something he wanted to attend - So he and his wife did.

Fast forward to today and Ben is now cancer and tumour free and doing great. The Ian Gawler Retreat for Ben was an absolute life changing experience, and many of the things he learnt there completely changed the way he thought and how he has lived his life since. Ben was fortunate enough to be in a position with such great family (and friends) around him to support his decision and desire to explore other options (and not just traditional). In fact it was actually Ben's mother in law that came across the Ian Gawler Retreat

And this is the exact reason behind Ben setting up the Kerslake Foundation.

The Kerslake Foundation has been created to give current and future sufferers the same education, support and empowerment that Ben had during his fight against this disease.

The Kerslake foundation supports 2 areas that are close to Ben's heart, and which he believed had the biggest impact on his progress of Melanoma:

  1. The Australian Melanoma Research Foundation; and
  2. The Ian Gawler Cancer Foundation Retreat's

Everyone involved in the Kerslake Foundation believe that by supporting both of these causes, it gives the perfect balance of traditional research in the bid for a cure and also assisting current patients through a more holistic (road less traveled) approach.
