Description

Building on the success of the Campaspe River Tour held in 2017, the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is again collaborating with Traditional Owner (TO) groups to coordinate a two day event in March 2018. The event will be an opportunity to spend time on Country, building relationships and exchanging knowledge between Traditional Owners and with relevant North Central CMA staff.

The purpose of the River TOur (Traditional Owner tour) is to share understanding of the cultural landscape, river management and get to know each other with some fun along the way.

Tickets are limited for Traditional Owners and will be allocated to Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung, Barapa Barapa and Yorta Yorta and their partners only. Tickets are to be booked individually and will require a small participation fee of $40 for adults (16+ years) and $20 for children (8-15 years) with the CMA to cover the cost of meals and up to two night’s accommodation in Echuca on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 March. Payment can be made via credit card through the Eventbrite site. If you wish to pay by direct deposit please contact North Central CMA reception on (03) 54487124 to book your ticket over the phone and arrange alternative payment.

A waiting list will be held by the North Central CMA in the event the tour is oversubscibed. Please contact reception on (03) 5448 7124 if there are no tickets available.

Tour outline


Day 1: Canoeing on the Campaspe River and yarn around the campfire at Rochester (subject to fire restrictions). Afternoon cultural heritage event involving broader community.

Day 2: Bus trip into Gunbower Forest then lunch and yarn on the Wetlander while cruising along Gunbower Creek. Canoeing at Safes Lagoon.

*Canoeing is optional however a reasonable level of fitness is required to fully participate due to some walking.

Outcomes:

The anticipated outcomes of this trip will include:

  • Sharing understanding of river management

  • Making new connections between people and Country

  • Knowledge exchange

Timing

The tour is planned for Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 March. Accommodation the night before (Monday 26 March) can be included for those who will need to travel. The event will be postponed in the event of extreme weather conditions or low river flows.

Participation

A public event will be held on Tuesday 27 March at Mercure Port of Echuca. Details will be released through eventbrite when they become available.

Children over 8 years of age are welcome to participate under the supervision of a parent or guardian. BYO folding chair or picnic rug.
