Take a fascinating tour of a rare surviving example of a 19th century Victorian kitchen.

About this event

Rippon Lea’s kitchen complex is a time capsule: a rare surviving example of a 19th Century kitchen complex. The original basement kitchens were enlarged by the Sargood family as part of their 1882 extensions to the original mansion. They remained in full operation for fifty years, when a new kitchen was installed on the ground floor of the mansion.

Abandoned in the 1930s, the rooms offer a glimpse into the lives of those who lived “below stairs”. Back by popular demand, tours will include seven rooms - the Servants’ Sitting Room (which was converted into a Laundry in the 1930s), Scullery, Kitchen and Cool rooms, Meat Store, Pantry and Cellar and will be led by one of the National Trust’s knowledgeable volunteer guides.

Enjoy a glass of Mrs Beeton’s delicious House made lemonade upon arrival.
