Right to Home Community Forum
Date and time
Description
It’s time for all levels of government to deliver more affordable and secure housing for everyone.
You’re invited to a Right to Home community forum, an evening of shared stories, commitment and action.
The forum will feature local decision makers including the Hon. Victor Dominello, Minister for Finance, Services and Property and Liberal Member for Ryde, and Cr Jerome Laxale, Mayor of Ryde who will be asked to publicly commit to act on affordable housing.
Come with your organisation, family or as an individual. This is a FREE event with light refreshments.
Together we can make a difference.
Sydney is at its best when everyone can afford to live in the community, close to jobs, schools and their families. Sydneysiders, their families and communities thrive when they know they have a stable roof over their heads. Sadly this is not the case for thousands of us.
There are over 60,000 households on the public housing waiting list. Only 1% of rental properties are affordable to people on the minimum wage and the median property price in Sydney is close to $1 million.
There is a severe lack of secure and affordable rental housing for moderate and low income households across the city. Growing competition for rental properties are causing rents to skyrocket so every-day people can no longer afford to rent a place to live and have security of tenure.
Local councils and NSW government can deliver more affordable and secure housing with the stroke of a pen. Housing specifically aimed at households on lower incomes and workers who serve our community, like police, nurses and health care workers, fire fighters, cleaners, child care workers, life-savers and carers. We need fair tenancy laws that mean families won’t be thrown out for no good reason.
Be part of the organised community voice calling for solutions. Decisions are made by those who show up.
At our Right to Home Forum, you’ll hear from locals, experts and the politicians. Elected representatives will be asked to commit to specific, concrete changes that can help solve the problem.
