Event description
A full-day policy forum exploring the legacy of the Women’s Movement and the Whitlam Government.

About this Event

The Whitlam Institute warmly invites you to “Revisiting the Revolution – Building on the Legacy of the Women’s Movement and the Whitlam Government”.

The opening speaker will be The Honourable Tanya Plibersek MP, Member for Sydney, and Shadow Minister for Education and Training. The Forum will include key activist women of the era, Dr Elizabeth Reid AO FASSA FAIIA, The Hon. Elizabeth Evatt AC, The Hon. Susan Ryan AO, Marie Coleman AO, and other women leaders of the time.

The program is designed to generate discussions on the legacy of the Whitlam Government regarding women’s rights, and the lessons that can be drawn from that legacy today. As well as women who were at the vanguard of the women’s movement in Australia, the forum will include current and emerging female leaders.

This gathering aims to enrich the record of the achievements of the Whitlam Government relating to the status of women. For young women leaders of today, the event will highlight the ways in which strategic activism can result in durable and substantial change.
