Description

In an uncertain world, reduction of government funding has caused NFP organisations to diversify their funding, to introduce strategies for philanthropic giving. This presentation discusses philanthropic strategies and the need to diversify funding to ensure the financial viability of NFP arts institutions fifty years after Baumol and Bowen economic dilemma. Using content analysis of annual reports, the study presents findings of the different philanthropic approaches of large and small not-for-profit arts organisations in Australia.

Chiara Carolina Donelli is a PhD Fellow in the Department of Public Management, University of Parma. Currently, she is a visiting scholar in the School of Management at UniSA Business School. Chiara’s main research interests include management and organization for cultural institutions, public-private partnership, public administration and philanthropy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Roma, La Sapienza and a Master in Arts Management with Honors from the University of Bologna. Prior to enrolling in her PhD, Chiara had worked and collaborated with different NFP organizations (Art laboratory Berlin; MostraMi Art, Milan) and private arts institutions (Collezione Maramotti, Max Mara Gallery). She also collaborated at the 2017 Report on Business Model of the Performing Arts Institutions for a local government region in Italy called Emilia Romagna. Her work has been presented at AIMAC (International Conference on Arts and Cultural Management) 2017, Gala 2016 (Global Academy of Liberal Arts Conference), IASC (International Conference of the Commons) 2015.
