Event description
This event is being held to support landholders impacted by the 2019 Cudlee Creek bushfire to revegetate and re-green their properties.

About this event

The Reveg Festival will bring the bushfire community together, sharing and learning about all things revegetation and bushfire recovery.

On Saturday 25th June 2022, thousands of native plants grown by local organisations and community groups will be given out to landholders affected by the 2019 Cudlee Creek fire. By planting these seedlings, landholders will be helping restore health to their properties following bushfire and re-greening the landscape.

Any landholder impacted by the 2019 Cudlee Creek bushfire is eligible to receive free plants.

Registration through Eventbrite is essential in order to attend the event and receive your free plants. Plants need to be picked up at Reveg Festival on June 25.

Before loading your plants, you will be able to watch a live demonstration (approximately 15 minutes) on how to plant your seedlings in order to achieve maximum survival and success. You'll also have opportunity to chat with revegetation experts, landscape service providers and the bushfire community.

There are 2 different plant packs available, with a limit of 2 packs (100 plants) total per eligible property:

  • PADDOCK TREE PACK - each pack contains 50 plants.
  • HABITAT PACK (Mix of trees, shrubs and ground covers. Suitable for revegetation projects, gardens or shelter belts) - each pack contains 50 plants.

Plants have been generously grown and donated for the third year in a row by the following organisations - Alexandrina Community Nursery, State Flora, Jurlique, Kersbrook Landcare Nursery, Woodside Primary School and Trees for Life.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

To get the best revegetation results, it's important to be prepared. If you intend to register for the Reveg Festival, please consider the following points to ensure revegetation is suitable for your property, and to start preparing for your plants:

  • What type of revegetation are you interested in for your property?
  • Where are you going to plant your seedlings?
  • Is site preparation required? Fencing, weed control, pre-digging holes, etc.
  • How will you water seedlings over the first year - are you able to get water out to your chosen planting site?
  • Is the area fenced off and protected from predation (including stock and kangaroos)? If not, you will need to consider guards. We will be offering small guards and stakes for free at the event, but certain situations necessitate more heavy duty guards, e.g. Mallee Mesh Guards for cattle. Please determine your guarding needs and have them ready to go prior to picking up your plants.
  • Do I have the capacity or support needed to plant out these seedlings on my property? (It can take approximately 20 minutes to plant and guard each seedling, so please factor in 17 hours of effort for planting out 1 plant pack.)

After registering you'll receive more information on revegetation planning and preparation in the lead up to Reveg Festival.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Bushfire Recovery team on LandscapeSA.HFRecovery@sa.gov.au or at the Mount Barker office of the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board on (08) 8391 7500

The Reveg Festival is being delivered by the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
