Event description

Description

Enjoy an afternoon with five authors of historic fact and fiction and hear fascinating stories as they reveal secrets, family and conflict from the past.

Tania Blanchard discusses the challenges she faced researching her hidden family history. Tania often heard stories of her grandmother's experiences during the war years in occupied Germany. However, after her grandmother passed away, Tania discovered documents, letters and photos of her life in Germany, that uncovered secrets that had been kept from her family. Her new book, The Girl from Munich is Tania's grandmother's story.

In 1905 Rosetta escaped her safe Melbourne life, deserting her respectable husband and five-year-old daughter to run away to London with Zeno the Magnificent, a half-Chinese fortune teller and seducer of souls. Rosetta: a scandalous true story is the compelling story of Alexandra Joel’s quest to uncover the truth about her scandalous great-grandmother, and the shocking century-old secret she would discover at the heart of her family.

Critically-acclaimed military historian David W. Cameron dsicusses his new book - The Charge: the Australian Light Horse victory at Beersheba and how he used first-hand accounts to piece together the story – one of the last successful cavalry charges in history – to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the battle.

Judy Nunn and Bruce Venables talk with Jaye Ford about the research required to ensure the accuracy of historical places and events in their writing. Bruce's new novel Eureka Run is a thrilling historical adventure set against the backdrop of the Eureka Stockade. Judy is in the final stages of preparing her new novel, Sanctuary, due for release on 16 October 2017.

Doors open at 12 noon and your ticket includes a delicious light lunch and refreshments. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
