Overview

May Learning Exchange facilitated by Salvation Army

What happens when a homelessness service explores new ways of working?

In this conversational session, we’ll explore approaches that move beyond traditional case management to foster connection and meaningful involvement for the people services support.

Drawing on Housing First, harm reduction, and community development principles, this session will explore how services can:

  • Shift from one-size-fits-all responses to approaches that respect choice, voice, and lived experience
  • Critically consider barriers to doing things differently: are our service contracts restricting us, or ourselves?
  • Embed co-design, collaboration, and genuine involvement in service delivery
  • Support staff to navigate risk thoughtfully, balancing safety with autonomy and innovation
  • Use feedback and system frustration constructively to improve practice, deepen engagement and creatively respond

Leaders who have guided these transformations will share insights and reflections, all while respecting the frameworks, policies and realities that guide services.

Consider this your invitation to join in, reflect and walk away considering: where could I start doing things differently?

This learning exchange will be facilitated by Jocelyn Harrison, Community Development Specalist and Sharleena Bramley, Acting Regional Manager from Salvation Army.

Attendees are encouraged to share their insights, struggles and exchange learnings.
