Event description

Description

In the twenty years since the Australian Government released the findings of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from their Families the Australian public has gained a better understanding of the intergenerational impacts of forced removals and the prevailing discourses and government policies which enabled such practices. Less well known and researched are the legal provisions and mechanisms for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to be exempted from state laws prior to 1967, and their impacts. This Symposium wil facilitate stakeholder discussion and foster the advance of scholarship in thios important area of multi-disciplinary study.
