Event description

Description

Restorative yoga is unlike other styles of yoga. In normal yoga classes, the breath is used as a tool to release, however restorative uses props and complete submission to one’s entire body.

Established from the teachings of B.K.S Iyengar, Restorative Yoga is a practice of internal healing. By carrying the student into a deep state of relaxation, the body is completely supported with bolsters during each asana. The student nourishes the body in a deep state of surrender, with all tensions released and minimal to no effort for the student.

One of the major benefits of Restorative Yoga is the profound effect it has on the nervous system. The nervous system functions on two planes: sympathetic and parasympathetic. When the nervous is put under undue stress it enters into the “flight or fight” mode. Or the sympathetic function. Here unnecessary amounts of adrenaline are released into the body. The heart begins to constrict and increases in speed.

Whereas the parasympathetic nervous system restores the body to a state of calm. The muscles relax, the digestion and elimination systems returns to their normal state. Restorative Yoga allows the parasympathetic nervous system to return to it’s normal state of ‘rest and rejuvenate.’ Here is where the body can restore harmony to the body, mind and breath. The mind is allowed space to relax, to heal and to rejuvenate.
